Identity : True Honor of Women

Mitali wants to stand on her own  feet and make an identity for herself. But  after marriage husband said , "No Mita,  now leave all these dreams. I'll happy only if you engage yourself on household ". Mita become quite surprised to hear this.  Abhishek , husband of Mitali , is the manager of a bank in Malda. They  came to Malda after marriage and got a flat in a well-arranged house.

Mitali went back to the past. Afer completing graduation , Mita thought its enough , now no more study.  But her mother wanted her to continue her studies atleast upto Musters. She  tried to make Mita   understand a lot but being failed  her parents thought  to get her married.  Then the family  of Abhishek came to see her one day.  The traditional joint family, their son has been working  for five years and now he has been promoted as a bank manager and  posted in Malda for two months. Abhishek's home is in Kolkata, of course, so within a week of all the social rituals of the wedding happened, they moved to Malda's  flat, a three-bedroom flat with a  well-arranged garden.

From that day onwards, her new dream of family started, the dream  in the eyes of all the girls.  She arranged everything  very carefully with all her love,  as like she played with puppets when she was a child. But within some day everything started to change. Abhishekh was always busy with his work.  These days  Mita spends most of her time doing household work all day. From morning to night ....  cooking , washing clothes, marketing, packing lunch box for Abhisekh... all busy life.  Abhisekh can't even take a glass of water by his own. But this man is very punctual at his  work place and busy also so he couldn't find much time for his wife. Nowadays, Abhishek and Mita's  relationship is like nothing more than a husband and wife, like waking up according to the rules, working and getting everything ready and handing it over to the husband and fulfilling his biological needs by lying on bed at night. Mitali wanted a family of her own  but not like such this device.  She wanted a life of peace , love and comfort, where the mind can breathe with the soul.  Husband-wife means friends, who believe and respect themselves and share everything with each other.

One day they went to a village fair, Mita indulged to buy a saree and a kashmiri Shawl for her parents. But Abhisekh not even refused to do this but insulted her saying "  First make money of your own ,  then let's do all this" .  The day for the first time Mitali understood  what a big mistake she made by not listening to her parents . She realized that she is only a cockatoo captive in a golden cage.  Mita decided to start her study and complete Musters , but again she was refused. Abhisekh told " Girls don't need much education , its enough if they know how to  cook and take care of a child properly".  These days Mita fells herself  like a parasites ; nothing but a caretaker or a full time  maid of her husband. But how long will  she be upset and feel helpless?  She is a educated , smart girl.  So why is she behaved like a  weaker vessel?

After some days she went out for marketing. That is the day she thinks she will find her own way to change her life. Suddenly as she walked out of the house onto the main street, she saw a large banner with the words, " We want an English teacher for the coaching guide center" written in large letters.  Wow!  It would be nice if she got this job then Abhishek will be  absolutely shocked !! She slowly stood in front of the coaching center's office.  With a  little fear but she has to talk today. She murmured "Tomorrow never comes, it's always Today" finally  she pushed the door and entered.

Yes ,  Mitali got the job. After verify  all her certificate and qualifications the  gentleman of the coaching center said.  "If you want, you can come to take classes from tomorrow, from eleven in the afternoon to three in the afternoon.   "The time is right but how many days I have to come?" Mita asked hesitantly.  The gentleman
laughed and said, "only four days a week, do you agree?" Mita tried to remember the last day when she become so much happy. The salary that will be given  is very small.  But no matter , with this  she can at least do something for herself without Abhisekh's help.

Abhisekh returned from office , Mita  opened the door and snatched his office bag . Abhishek is shocked by his wife's  sudden changed behavior and says- why are you so happy?  Has anyone come from your house? On the dinner table  Abhishek asked  "What's the matter? Would you wanna say something?" But heard all what he said Mita was not prepared for that. " How dare you to do that without my permission.  You are my wife, how much everyone  respects me here and  you will go to the coaching center for teaching? How dare you say that?" Mitali was surprised, who is she looking at?  To an educated husband, does  wife mean only his rights?  It is not a crime  to do  job, so why is he behaving like an illiterate person.

Abhishek went on to say that his family's daughter's and wives had never worked  nor they would go outside to earn.  She is not the only one who is educated, everyone is with her own  husband and family.  Even Abhishek's mother , who was a professor once , quited her  job after marriage. Mita did not know how long he had been talking.  She wents out  and stands on the balcony, wondering if her dream will come true.  Tears welled up in her eyes.  He closed her eyes and remembered her father told ,  "No one will come to make your  dream true. Its cometely  yours so you have to think about how to fulfill the dreams. If the goal is right, then go ahead , fight for it , you don't need to compromise your dream  with anything.

This day Mitali decided to make an  identity of her own ; not only as a wife , a daughter in law or as a mother she will have to make  her own independent identity. Oneday she will fly in the open sky, not in a golden cage. She also will live with proper dignity and respect she deserves.  She'll start her study again and live without anybody's help.  No, she will not  compromise anymore.  Mitali finally realized how important it is for girls to create their own identity in order to survive in this society and to get the honors  they deserve.
